Environmental risk assessment

Ensuring environmental safety

We provide a wide range of services to ensure the environmental safety of your products and technologies. Our ecotoxicological studies provide the data for reliable risk assessments and document regulatory compliance. Our services are customised to meet the specific needs of your industry.

ECOTOXICOLOGICAL LABORATORY TESTS

Assessing the environmental safety of your products and technologies can be a lengthy and costly process. We can assist you in all the phases of environmental risk assessment in a cost- and time-efficient manner. We support you by:

  • developing test strategies and ecotoxicological testing
  • using cost-efficient, non-test methods such as QSAR and read-across
  • carrying out focused and efficient data collection
  • producing data and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements

We also support the pharmaceutical industry by providing European Medicines Agency (EMA)-compliant testing.

REACH AND CHEMICAL EXPOSURE

We can help you control chemical exposure, by complying with the relevant regulations. Our support includes:

  • documenting the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and preparation of registration dossiers
  • preparing exposure scenarios
  • conducting risk assessments of environmental releases
  • applying for environmental permits
  • chemicals management and compliance checks in IT tools

OSPAR CONVENTION AND OFFSHORE CHEMICALS

The use of chemicals in the marine environment and offshore industries – such as the oil and gas industry – is specifically regulated by the OSPAR Convention. We can help you meet its requirements by:

  • performing the required work related to hazardous substances
  • identifying less hazardous or non-hazardous substances
  • generating documentation for ecotoxicological properties of chemicals
  • performing marine ecotoxicological tests

TYPE APPROVAL TESTING OF BALLAST WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

To get approval in time and meet the market with robust documentation of your system’s performance, we provide:

  • land-based and shipboard tests of ballast water management systems according to IMO or U.S. Coast Guard rules
  • comprehensive testing portfolios, including readiness evaluation, commissioning testing, whole effluent toxicity tests and risk assessments
  • high flexibility and modern land-based test facilities in Denmark and Singapore

In June 2013, our European laboratory (in conjunction with DNV) achieved the status of an Independent Laboratory. This means that we are the first non-U.S. laboratory to be authorised by the United Stated Coast Guard (USCG) to evaluate and test technologies designed to treat ballast water on ships.
