MIKE HYDRO Basin for students and educators
DHI now provides unprecedented access to MIKE HYDRO Basin licences for universities, colleges, and research institutions worldwide. Designed for classroom instruction and Masters/PhD projects, free licences give students and educators access to professional-grade modelling tools for integrated water resource management. To access technical support, fully featured University Research licenses are also available at a significant discount compared to commercial licenses.
Who can use MIKE HYDRO Basin?
A University Research License is available both as a perpetual license and as a subscription and strictly limited to educational and research purposes only.
A Classroom Labkit is available both as a perpetual license and as a subscription and strictly limited to educational and research purposes only.
A Student Labkit is an internet license for one single user. The license is time-limited, typically 6-12 months, but can be updated or extended upon request.
* Please note: Student Labkits may not be available for all products in all countries.

Everything you need to know
Do academic licences include access to all software modules?
Student Labkits and Classroom Teaching packages include full functionality with no feature restrictions, giving you access to the complete professional software suite.
However, availability may vary by product and region. University Research Licences include all standard modules, plus ESRI software integration and maintenance agreements for perpetual licences. Contact us to confirm which specific modules are included in your region.
Can multiple students share a single Student Labkit?
No. Student Labkits are single-user internet licences intended for individual. If you're teaching a course or supervising multiple students, consider our Classroom Teaching Labkits, which accommodate 25+ seats and are better suited for collaborative or instructional environments.
Can I use the software on multiple devices?
Student Labkits are internet licences that allow installation on multiple devices but restrict concurrent use to a single user. This flexibility lets you work from your office, lab, or home computer as needed. Classroom Teaching Labkits support 25+ concurrent users across institutional devices. Check your licence agreement for specific installation limits.
How quickly can I get started once approved?
Once your eligibility is verified, typically within 1–3 business days, you'll receive licence credentials and download instructions. Installation usually takes 30–60 minutes depending on your system and internet connection. We provide step-by-step guides and support to get you modelling as quickly as possible.
Can I publish results generated with academic software?
Absolutely. You retain full rights to publish your research outputs, including figures, data, and analysis results, in academic journals, conference proceedings, theses, and dissertations. Proper citation of the software in your methodology section is appreciated. Academic licences support the scholarly mission of advancing knowledge in water science.
How can we help?
With our global network of offices, we make sure you get the right answers to your local needs. Let us know what you're interested in (e.g., product features, trial license, pricing, etc.) and we will get back to you.
