Now in its third year, the Singapore Excellence Awards recognises companies and individuals that demonstrate outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development in the Singaporean market.
Exemplified by Aquaporin InsideTM reverse osmosis and forward osmosis membrane products, this technology can be used for a wide range of water treatment applications – from industrial wastewater treatment to seawater desalination.
Aquaporin InsideTM Membrane Technology is biomimetic – it utilises aquaporin proteins to improve the performance of water treatment membranes, resulting in operational expenditure (OPEX) savings. DHI Singapore has worked closely with Aquaporin Asia’s development team since the company was incorporated in Singapore in 2011. Previous studies involved using DHI Singapore’s computational fluid dynamics (CFD) capabilities to help optimise Aquaporin InsideTM Reserve Osmosis (RO) membrane performance in seawater desalination applications.
Says Mark Perry, Chief Operation Officer of Aquaporin Asia, ‘Receiving recognition from Frost & Sullivan truly showcases the continuous value generated by the inter-country collaboration between Aquaporin A/S in Denmark, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), DHI, the Economic Development Board (EDB), and the Environment & Water Industry Programme Office (EWI) in Singapore. Without the combination of extensive support from our collaboration partners and a hard-working and skilful Aquaporin Asia team, this award would never have been within our reach.’
Martin Andersen, Business Development Manager of DHI and Co-Principal Investigator of the above mentioned project says, ‘Using our global presence to assist Danish water technology companies to go global is really a core function of DHI. We are very proud to have assisted Aquaporin A/S open the door to the Singapore Water Hub and establish world class R&D facilities here through Aquaporin Asia.’
Currently, DHI Singapore is involved in a joint EWI project with Aquaporin Asia and NTU. The goal of the project is to develop, optimise, and test-bed forward osmosis systems based on the Aquaporin InsideTM Forward Osmosis (FO) membrane technology. DHI Singapore is contributing to the designing, testing, and optimisation of forward osmosis modules as well as securing relevant industrial partners for technology test-bedding in Singapore.
