DHI Foundation appoints Thomas G. Schmidt as new Chair of the Board of DHI A/S

20 May 2026

Thomas G. Schmidt succeeds Jakob Thomasen, who has played a central role in DHI’s strategic development since 2014. Thomas G. Schmidt brings many years of experience in strategy, business development and innovation.

‘It has been a privilege to chair DHI’s Board through a period of significant development and growth. Today, DHI stands on a strong foundation, and the company’s mission to address global water challenges is more relevant than ever. I am confident in handing over the baton to Thomas, whose broad strategic perspective and international experience will continue to strengthen the work of the Board,’ says Jakob Thomasen.

DHI A/S is owned by the DHI Foundation, which was established in 2019. Chair of the DHI Foundation, Per Falholdt, says:

‘On behalf of the DHI Foundation, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jakob Thomasen for his many years of dedicated and significant contribution as Chair of the Board of DHI. With strong commitment and a clear strategic vision, Jakob has left a lasting mark on DHI’s development and strengthened the collaboration between the Board and Executive Management. As a foundation-owned company with a long-term ownership perspective, continuity is essential, and with Thomas G. Schmidt as the new Chair of the Board, we are ensuring a strong and stable foundation for DHI’s continued development.

Over the past year, Thomas G. Schmidt has served as Vice Chair of DHI’s Board and now assumes the role of Chair. He brings extensive experience in strategy and business development from McKinsey & Company, including as Managing Partner in Denmark, as well as international experience from Los Angeles and Santiago de Chile. Alongside his board responsibilities, he is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of 21st.BIO, where the focus is on translating advanced technology into solutions to global resource challenges.

‘Few people realise that Denmark is home to one of the world’s leading companies within consultancy and advanced software modelling for water environments, water resources and hydraulics. Water is a scarce resource that is coming under increasing pressure globally. DHI is a company with a unique professional position and a clear responsibility in addressing some of the world’s most pressing water challenges. I therefore feel privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the next chapter for DHI. As Chair of the Board, I look forward to working closely with the Board and the executive leadership team on DHI’s continued development and investment in its world-leading position, while delivering solid, sustainable results,’ says Thomas G. Schmidt.
