Growing water challenges increase the need for water technology and know-how

19 May 2026

Large parts of the world are increasingly affected by droughts, flooding and pollution, increasing the demand for resilient solutions. DHI, who published its annual report for 2025, is experiencing this firsthand. With more than 2,500 projects worldwide, DHI is helping to address the growing challenges related to water and ocean environments.

Across the globe, water has moved up on the political and societal agenda. Countries are increasingly affected by droughts, flooding and pollution, and they are therefore seeking solutions to these challenges. This is reflected in DHI’s continued growth, according to the company’s recently published 2025 annual report, and DHI has successfully positioned itself at the center of the market.

For the fifth consecutive year, revenue increased, reaching EUR 149.4 million, corresponding to organic growth of 2.1%. Earnings measured by EBITDA amounted to 6.8 million, up EUR 1.8 million from the year before. The EBITDA margin was 4.6%, 1.2 percentage points higher than the previous year.

‘The annual report tells the story of the difference we make for our clients and the society around us. We see an increasing need for solutions within water resources, climate adaptation and environmental protection, and DHI is strongly positioned to contribute. This is a result of our strategy and our focus on creating the greatest possible value with our expertise and leading technologies,’ says Mette Vestergaard, CEO of DHI.

In 2025 alone, DHI was involved in more than 2,500 projects worldwide – from protecting Saint-Malo’s waterfront on the French west coast against increasing storm impacts to integrating nature-based flood management solutions in Brazil.

From research and development to practical solutions

Research plays an increasingly important role in the development of solutions. In 2025, DHI participated in 80 national and international research projects and has also made significant investments in expanding its already advanced technological solutions. Total investments in research, development and innovation exceeded EUR 18 million, an increase of 19% compared to 2024.

These investments aim to translate science into scalable solutions and include, among other things, systems for drinking water management, improved monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions from wetlands based on satellite data and the use of artificial intelligence for the analysis and management of coastal areas.

‘DHI’s employees are among the world’s most highly skilled and specialised professionals within water and the environment. It is their dedication, expertise and curiosity that enable us to deliver results for our clients and for society, as water becomes an increasingly defining agenda,’ says Mette Vestergaard.

Ready for the challenges of the future

Global challenges related to water, climate and the environment are expected to grow in the coming years. Therefore, DHI sees a continued strong foundation for developing solutions that support both clients and society in a more sustainable direction.

‘Our ambition is to create an even greater impact – through our technology, our advisory services and not least our people,’ says Mette Vestergaard.
