DHI has released MIKE 2026, the latest version of its MIKE Powered by DHI software suite. The update introduces new features and enhancements across all products, enabling more efficient, accurate and flexible workflows. MIKE 2026 is available at no additional cost to clients with an active Service and Maintenance Agreement (SMA) or subscription.

What's new in MIKE 2026

FEFLOW 11 streamlines model creation and simulation with the Structural Model Editor for mesh-ready 3D geological models and the Open Loop System Editor for flexible geothermal system design. New pinching methods, an interactive Pinch-Delete tool and the Split Layer tool improve handling of complex layers and vertical resolution. With performance gains of up to 50%, these enhancements deliver more accurate and efficient workflows.
MIKE 21 and MIKE 3 deliver faster, more flexible modelling with 1D and 2DV transect wave setups for high-resolution cross-shore simulations. Wave Model FM calculations are accelerated for large projects and enhanced flocculation modelling improves sediment transport and deposition predictions. The MIKE ECO Lab Experimenter lets users test and refine MIKE ECO Lab templates in a simple box model without running full hydrodynamic simulations. Extended Data Extraction FM now offers flexible line and vertical series outputs, and tidal prediction tools are faster and more accurate with updated harmonic analysis and NetCDF support.
MIKE+ enhances hydraulic and flood modelling with more realistic system behaviour and streamlined workflows. Users can simulate pressure relief valves for improved surge protection and model displaceable manhole covers to better represent flood dynamics. They can also generate high-resolution flood rasters directly in the platform and apply rainfall and evaporation to lakes and reservoirs for better water-balance accuracy without external tools.


Additional product updates

MIKE SHE adds a new Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere Transfer (SVAT) module for advanced evapotranspiration calculations that account for energy balance. Water movement and water quality simulations can now run in parallel for more realistic agricultural assessments, including crop growth and fertiliser impacts. A new Saturated Zone Dryness alert flags partial layer drying to help maintain model stability and reliable groundwater–surface water interactions.
MIKE HYDRO Basin features an enhanced LOAD Calculator for easier separation of surface runoff and groundwater as well as faster, GIS-based load assessments. The Control Rules module now supports controllable reservoir outlets, allowing advanced simulation of operations that balance flood control, water supply and environmental objectives.
MIKE OPERATIONS now supports web API integration for cloud-native deployments and API-triggered model runs, enabling automated, cost-efficient workflows. A new Python package streamlines automation and integration with Python workflows.
WEST introduces a Mass Balance Plot tool for fast, intuitive tracking of process variables. The Wastewater Plant Designer is simplified with four options for creating MLE and A2O plants, enabling quick steady-state design with minimal input. Full Spanish language support improves usability and accessibility for Spanish-speaking users.
MIKE WaterNet Advisor adds a Leak Locator simulation that detects zones of increased Minimum Night Flow and identifies likely leaks. The Animation tool offers Skip Playback for faster review, and a new ‘abandoned’ pipe status keeps inactive pipelines visible on the map while excluding them from simulations.

With support from Denmark, IUCN, UNEP and the UNEP-DHI Centre have, in collaboration with the governments of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, launched the Climate Resilient Eastern African Transboundary Water Management for Environmental Sustainability (CREATES) programme. This is a new initiative focused on strengthening climate-resilient and cooperative water management across Eastern Africa.
CREATES is a multi-year initiative designed to assist the three governments of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in improving their transboundary water management in support of water security, climate resilience, regional cooperation and sustainable development. The programme forms part of Denmark’s contribution to the EU Team Europe Initiative on Transboundary Water Management (TEI-TWM) and complements wider regional and continental efforts to manage shared water resources in ways that support stability and long-term resilience.

Researchers have gained new insights into the Danish marine environment following the launch of the North Sea Environment Portal one year ago. Operated by DHI, the portal provides access to decades of environmental data and is already being used in new analyses of seabed conditions, biodiversity and climate impacts.
 
2,500. That is how many times the North Sea Environment Portal has been visited by researchers from, among others, GEUS and DTU, as well as other users from around the world during the portal’s first year.
Geologist and palaeontologist Bodil Wesenberg Lauridsen from the research and advisory institution GEUS (The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland) is among the researchers who, together with her research group, uses the portal in a major research project on faunal variations before, during and after oil and gas production in the North Sea.
‘The biological platform data give us completely unique access to developments on the seabed. We can now compare historical geological data going back 10,000 years with data from the past 30 years and see how selected species respond to both natural conditions and impacts from oil and gas activities. That has not been possible before,’ she says.
The portal was launched one year ago by DHI together with TotalEnergies, operator of the Danish Underground Consortium. Since then, it has become a standard tool for researchers, authorities and consultants working with the North Sea marine environment. New datasets are added on an ongoing basis. For example, datasets for 2024 have just been added.
Making key marine environmental data available
DHI develops and operates the portal and has contributed large parts of the data foundation through many years of measurements in the North Sea. The task today is to make this knowledge accessible and usable for everyone working with the marine environment and offshore development.
‘We have monitored environmental conditions in the North Sea for more than 40 years. Together with TotalEnergies, the portal allows us to make these extensive measurements usable for everyone working with the marine environment. The historical data have enormous value, and they gain new life through the portal as a foundation for decision-making today,’ says Mikael Kamp Sørensen, Executive Vice President of Energy &amp; Water Resources at DHI.
The long data series also make it possible to link biological and geological data and place observations within a much longer time horizon. This opens up new perspectives for climate impact research.
A stronger foundation for decision-making in a time with major expansion
The North Sea is facing significant expansion of offshore wind and CCS, while oil and gas installations are being decommissioned. This increases the need for robust data on environmental status, variation and impacts over time.
‘Climate change is happening faster in the North Sea than in many other places because the sea is relatively shallow. With the portal, we can shed light on how biological and chemical processes have developed and what we can expect in the future,’ says Bodil Wesenberg Lauridsen.
It is TotalEnergies that has chosen to make the large volume of historical offshore data publicly available, data that DHI has helped collect over several decades.
‘As energy infrastructure in the North Sea develops, it is crucial to have a solid scientific visible foundation. By continuously sharing our historical environmental data, we help ensure that researchers and authorities can make the best possible decisions about the marine environment and future projects. That is why it is also encouraging to see so many users already making use of the portal,’ says Ole Hansen, Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Denmark.
A time-saving shortcut to data previously hidden in reports
Previously, working with many of the older datasets required extensive manual searching. Today, users can retrieve marine environmental data in seconds. In this way, the North Sea Environment Portal makes it easier to address questions such as how fauna changes before, during and after oil and gas production, where stressed and altered environments emerge and whether platforms form artificial reefs and new habitats.
Data change the understanding of a mussel family
The GEUS research group is, among other things, studying a family of mussels, Thyasiridae, which thrives when the environment becomes oxygen-depleted, for example if there is more organic material or methane in the sediment than organisms can break down.
‘When Thyasiridae are present, it is a sign of a shift in the environment. With the historical data, we can see that they respond very strongly to methane emissions and that they were part of the North Sea ecosystem long before the platforms were established. This changes our understanding of what is caused by human activity,’ explains Bodil Wesenberg Lauridsen.

DHI A/S has agreed to sell its Slovakian subsidiary, DHI Slovakia, to the company’s Managing Director, Marian Kucera.
The parties have agreed that Marian Kucera will acquire all shares in DHI SLOVAKIA, s.r.o. with effect from 19 December 2025.
 
As of this date, the company will exit the DHI Group and will continue under new ownership and a new company name. This legal entity will assume responsibility for all existing contractual obligations, client relationships and current employee contracts.

Access to test facilities can be key for a business to enable, demonstrate or certify their technology, allowing them to scale up and get the technology to the market. For SMEs however, identifying the precise test needs and finding the right facility and the means to finance the costs can be a hindrance to moving forward, with the risk that innovative technologies will never reach the market. 
To help SMEs overcome this obstacle in demonstrating and bringing their technology to market, DHI will launch an open call for free trial testing for Danish SMEs at our unique test facilities. DHI will then select two test cases to be performed during 2026. 
What we test
DHI's wave pool lab in Hørsholm, Denmark, is unique in hydraulic testing. DHI has 60 years of experience in physical model tests and numerical tools for infrastructure development in the offshore energy sector. Several major infrastructure works were given final shape here based on the laboratory results.
