Purpose, people and a few surprises

For Radka Lopomo, HR is more than a profession — it’s a way to contribute to something meaningful. From her first role in the Czech Republic to supporting teams around the world, Radka has grown professionally alongside DHI over the past eight years. In this edition of DHI People, Radka shares how her job has ranged from implementing systems to helping ship a colleague’s dog across borders. Yes, it’s quite the adventure!

Hi Radka, great to have you on DHI People. Tell us about yourself and your time at DHI!

Hi everybody! My name is Radka, and I have been at DHI for eight and a half years now. When I first started, I joined as a HR Assistant in the Czech Republic, but then quickly progressed: started helping Denmark, and through that got to more of a global role, leadership role for the amazing HR Support team, and that finally got me all the way to my current Specialist role, where I am responsible for HR processes and systems. But my ‘long’ seniority in DHI HR team oftentimes means I am the go-to person for everything, where I try to help everywhere currently needed.

What led you to a career in Human Resources?

Early on in my career, I realised that my true calling is doing something that has ‘sense’ – being useful, helping out. I tried to connect that with my organisational skills and analytical thinking, and after a few hits and misses, I ended up in HR. I always try to help whenever possible – it is in my nature to be accommodating. Working for DHI has a deep meaning for me – I often like to say that I could do a HR job anywhere – working for a corporation that does very little for the environment and community. But DHI has and always had such a strong purpose – making my job so much more meaningful here.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about working in HR?

I always laugh when people say the HR-Support or HR job is a boring admin job – I sometimes feel quite the opposite. I get surprised with new types of activities every week – at DHI, I was helping on tasks as different as assisting with the shipping of a colleague’s dog when relocating, to preparing reports for the Executive Leadership Team, to implementing new systems. Of course, there is still a fair amount of paperwork and admin tasks, but I usually happily welcome them.

In your experience, what makes DHI a unique place to work?

What I most appreciate DHI for is working alongside all my intelligent, hardworking colleagues. It is inspiring seeing people so talented and skilled in what they do – I love hearing about projects DHI works on, and the impact we have on the world. I am extremely proud of working for a company with such a strong purpose.

When you’re not working, what do you love to do for fun or to unwind?

Travelling – whether it is planning my next trip, thinking about new destinations or simply daydreaming about future adventures. When I was younger, I remember flipping through my travel books, feeling a little sad, thinking I would never see this or that place. And now – that feeling when I stand in front of my dream location – it is priceless. And let’s be honest, it also helps me forget all the long days at the office.

If you could instantly master any new skill or hobby, what would it be and why?

I would love to instantly master automation and AI tools – freeing up more time for strategic work and tasks that require human touch. We have a long journey ahead in HR to optimise and innovate, and mastering this knowledge would really come in handy.
