New DHI office opens in Peru

We recently opened a new office in Lima, Peru. Along with our office in Brazil, the establishment of DHI Peru will help us serve the growing needs of our clients in South America even better.

We will build on our previous experience in the region, which includes hydropower, mining, agriculture and flood management projects in Peru as well as aquaculture projects in Chile. ‘Our modelling software is already widely used here. We look forward to continuing to deliver high quality service to our clients as we further grow in this important region’, says Robin Marc Dufour, Managing Director of DHI Peru.

‘Peru is really three countries in one. Different regions – the arid coast, mountains (the Andes) and jungle (the Amazon) – have very different climates and geology, each with their own unique water-related challenges’, says Robin. ‘We will apply our knowledge and technology in all of these regions to manage these diverse water challenges’.

Peru, Chile and Colombia are particularly important countries in the mining sector. Peru alone is one of the top five producers of gold, silver and cooper. Mining activities, however, also raise many questions about their impact on groundwater and surface water. We will use our global expertise and experience within the mining sector to help our clients assess and manage the impacts of these activities in order to minimise risks to miners and the environment.

Our office in Peru will also be tackling other major water challenges in South America. ‘Our modelling software can be used to significantly reduce commercial and environmental risks related to water use and allocation by companies and governments’, says Stefan Paul Szylkarski, DHI Group Vice President for Mining. ‘We can use it in a variety of water-related activities – from determining environmental impacts on coasts and ports to managing groundwater aquifers to mining, just to name a few examples.’
