Hovedelementene i 2008 versjonen presenteres under. | |

The software concept for the on-line modelling of water supply and water distribution systems has been extended to an on-line forecasting of flows and pressures and on-line scheduling of system elements through the SCADA system. The control system simulator based on URBAN ON-LINE WD makes the same control decisions as the real control system would make under the same circumstances. For example, set an initial start up of pumps, adjust a flow set point and the hydraulic simulator will automatically simulate the results of such control decisions, and thereby predict the behaviour of the pipeline system. This prediction can be done for the next hours or days, e.g. next 3 hours, next 1 day, or next 3 days. Demand prediction tool has been developed in order to evaluate historical data and create an estimate for the future water consumption, based on the current conditions as well as historical trends; each demand type such as residential, commercial, industrial, irrigation, etc. can be handled differently. Once the simulation results are validated by system dispatchers, the new operating plans are sent to the SCADA system, where they are used by the automatic scheduling of valves, pumps, and other control elements.
Illustration: Predicted water levels are displayed along with the low and high alarm levels
This concept has been developed and implemented for Phase III of The Great Man Made River project in Libya and in coordination by DHI and Coyne & Bellier.

FEFLOW was the subject of the Software Spotlight feature in the latest Groundwater Journal [45 (2007)5, 525-528]. Capability, robustness, ease of use, and quality of the technical support were evaluated. In all categories FEFLOW was rated at least ‘4’ on a scale of ‘1’ to ‘5’ (best). In particular, the technical support scored a full ‘5’. The current level of recognition is both motivation and challenge to maintain the high standard for future FEFLOW versions. |

In cases of accidents or other disastrous events local Fire Brigades or Emergency Management Authorities must prevent, limit, and relieve damages to persons, properties and the environment within the shortest possible time. Important decisions may often be taken under uncertainty as readily available information about the area and the magnitude of the disaster may be incomplete.
GeoFES is a powerful instrument that can support the decision making both during operations and in connection with pre- and post evaluation of accidents by operational personal as well as administrative and managerial staff. Based on GIS technology GeoFES combines spatial (raster and vector data) and nonspatial data linked to data tables that contain detailed attribute information, e.g. contact details to offices, schools, hospitals etc.

If you want to compare simulation results between different alternatives of your project, you can use one of the standard result presentation options, which are available by selecting “Results” from the main menu and then by selecting “Results Comparison”. This will display load result file dialog from which you select the first and then second result file. Both result files will be subtracted from each other and the differences will be displayed in the same manner as any regular results. It is therefore possible to create thematic maps, time series, profile plots, and result animation.

The reason for this project was the flood disaster in august 2002 along the river Elbe. This event is classified as the highest ever calendared flood of the river Elbe in the Czech Republic and Saxony. In the federal states downstream of Saxony the flood dimension became more alleviate due to the opening of weirs, the use of the Lower Havel polders as an additional retention area as well as dike failures along the Elbe itself. The controlled flooding of the Lower Havel area during the flood disaster in 2002 clearly showed its particular importance for the reduction of extreme flood events for downstream areas.

WASY has over the last ten years, in close cooperation with the Berlin Fire Brigades, developed the GeoFES package, which supports the decision making in the emergency assistance, in connection with specific disasters, or prevention of possible disasters at major national events like the FIFA World Cup in soccer in 2006.
For the city of Berlin, Germany’s capital and largest city, fast access to complex information of all useful data by the chief officers is essential. Successful emergency response requires stable, efficient and user-friendly software, and GeoFES is continuously improved through project experience.
