7th International Conference on Ballast Water Management hosted in Singapore
The 7th International Conference on Ballast Water Management (ICBWM) took place on 5 – 7 November 2014 in Singapore and we were a key organiser of this successful event.
This year, 120 delegates dealing in ballast water management from the shipping, technology and research communities all over the world attended the ICBWM. The conference was greatly supported by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the GEF-UNDP-IMO GloBallast Partnerships Programme. Mr Andrew Tan, Chief Executive, MPA, was the event’s guest of honour.

Highlights of the conference included:
- Legal aspects in Ballast Water Management
- Methods and emerging scientific topics in Ballast Water Management
- Ballast Water Treatment system and operational challenges
- Fitting, retro fitting and experiences in operational Ballast Water Management
- Notes from pre-conference workshop
The ICBWM was an excellent forum to address the current uncertainties present within our community and provide solutions regarding ballast water management. We look forward to participating in the next one.
‘I have been to many conferences, big and small, but this one stands out in that apart from a couple of delegates that had to travel on to Brazil, everyone stayed until the very end. The dreaded “last session” was a pleasure for delegates and speakers alike. Excellent!’ - Hans Eikaas, Head, Environmental Technology and Chemistry, DHI Singapore.
