Agriculture

In many places of the world agricultural production causes adverse effects in the aquatic and terrestrial environments, for instance; leaching of nutrients and pesticides to groundwater, drainage and drift of pesticides to river, stream and lakes, erosion, etc.  The assessment of such agricultural pressures impact, risk and mitigation requires detailed understanding of agricultural production and its management and interactions with the physical environment.

DHI possesses a thorough knowledge in assessing root zone processes, for example for estimation of infiltration and leaching based on information about land use, soil and climate data. DHI's expertise also covers experience in running diversified scenario analysis assessing the environmental impacts, risk and the mitigation measures effect on crop yields and water quality. DHI has also assisted agrochemical producers in assessment of the environmental pesticide fate.
