MIKE 21 Curvelinear R-501

2D Morphological Modelling
Competency Level Level 1
Introduction

The 2 day course will supply professionals such as modelling practitioners and engineers who are acquainted with the functionalities and operations of either MIKE 11 HD and ST or with HD and ST modelling in general with detailed knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of the curvilinear model MIKE 21C. The aim is to enable the participants to use the facilities in the MIKE ZERO software, to establish modelling areas with the MIKE 21C grid generator and to set up, check quality of grid and bathymetry, execute and interpret hydrodynamics, sediment transport and morphology models using the MIKE 21C modelling system. Brief introduction to data requirements needed for morphological studies. The course can be tailored so that topics are focussed on introduction to modelling of different types of morphological problems, like reservoir sedimentation, short-term and long-term channel development, or bank erosion.

What will you learn?

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to MIKE ZERO preprocessors and postprocessors
  • Curvilinear grid and bathymetry generation
  • Introduction to MIKE21C HD (hydrodynamics); hydrodynamic model establishment
  • Introduction to MIKE21C ST (sediment transport); sediment transport model establishment
  • Introduction to morphological modelling, morphological model establishment
  • Introduction to the concepts: Fully dynamic, quasi-steady, and scaled modelling
  • Interface with other numerical modelling tools
  • Results presentation
  • Introduction to different types of morphological problems within river engineering that can be handled by the MIKE 21C model
  • Short introduction to the flexible mesh model MIKE 21FM with focus on the sediment module
Who should attend? This course is aimed at professionals undertaking 2D morphological modelling.
Prerequisites No formal prerequisites but a knowledge of basic hydraulics would be an advantage.
Course structure 2 day course including lectures and hands-on tutorials.
