Engineers Australia awards DHI’s Gold Coast project for protecting waterways through smarter recycle water release systems
Promoting industry excellence, fostering leadership, and encouraging innovation and sustainability, the 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards for the Queensland Division of Engineers Australia took place this October 7.
DHI, together with Allconnex Water and the Griffith University, received a high commendation for the Seaway SmartRelease Project, in the Research and Development category.
This project, taking place in the fastest growing region of Australia - the Gold Coast, aimed at managing the increasing pressure on the city’s infrastructure, including the wastewater treatment systems. The objective was to accommodate the growing recycled water loads whilst preserving the water quality and minimizing the operational costs.
Instead of refurbishing or replacing the infrastructure, DHI’s solution optimised the timing of treated water release allowing higher loads whilst improving the water quality. DHI’s SmartRelease systems deferred the need for a major infrastructure, saving an AUD 60 million investment.
