As part of the Turkey Earthquake and Flood Emergency Relief (TEFER) project DHI has been commissioned by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey to implement a flood forecasting system.
The combined flood forecasting and warning system will be established for four pilot catchments in western Turkey. Once implemented the system provide a complete automatic flood forecasting system, with a Flood Alert based on the rainfall forecast and catchment hydrologic status, a Flood Forecast based on the direct output of the forecasting model, and a Flood Warning including a map based prediction of the area, depth and duration of the flood. The warnings will be in a format suitable for transmission to national and local authorities, other concerned agencies, and for broadcast to the general public, providing essential information which can prevent or reduce loss of life and economic damage.
