DHI Water & Environment has undertaken physical model testing since its
foundation in 1964. Ever since, DHI has pioneered the advancement of
physical modelling techniques within the fields of port, coastal, hydraulic
and offshore engineering.
All test facilities are equipped with DHI's state-of-the-art model
testing technology including advanced wave generating systems.
One of the wave basins includes a new segmented 3D wave maker. The facility
is also equipped with a circulating current system and serves both ports,
coastal and offshore projects. The new wavemaker is equipped with DHI
AWACS3 Active Wave Absorption which is a means of avoiding spurious
reflection from a wavemaker. The technique allows for full control over the
incident waves, even when testing highly reflective structures in a
basin.
Two large shallow water wave basins that are widely used for ports and
marine structures, and the deepwater basin - also with 3D wave generating
capability - for offshore model testing complete the suite of DHI wave
basin facilities. In addition, a flume equipped with AWACS is used both for
research and commercial studies
